6 VEHICLE MAINTENANCE CHECKS FOR THE RAINY SEASON

Rainy weather brings various risks to driving: slippery roads, limited visibility, and flooding can endanger drivers while also accelerating vehicle wear if not properly maintained. To help ISUZU customers operate their vehicles with confidence in such conditions, we would like to share several important technical recommendations.

1. Check tire surface and pressure

Tires are the only parts of the vehicle in direct contact with the road and play a crucial role in ensuring safety when driving in the rain. Worn tires with shallow tread are prone to slipping on wet surfaces, so drivers should regularly check tread depth and replace the tires promptly if the grooves become too shallow.

In addition, maintaining the correct tire pressure is extremely important. This is especially crucial for trucks carrying cargo, where tire pressure must always meet the required standard. The spare tire should also be checked regularly to ensure it is ready for use when needed. Below is a reference table of tire pressure values:

Note: The standard tire pressure value will depend on the specific tire specifications in use.

2. Check Brake System

In rainy conditions, water often clings to the brake system components such as brake pads and discs, significantly reducing braking efficiency. Moreover, braking distance on wet roads can be two to three times longer than on dry surfaces. Therefore, it is essential to check the wear of the brake pads and the overall brake system. If the pads are found to be heavily worn, they should be replaced promptly. In addition, brake fluid should be changed regularly to prevent moisture contamination, which can lead to brake failure during sudden stops on slippery roads.

3. Check Electrical and Lighting System

During rainy weather, visibility is greatly reduced, so the vehicle’s lighting system must be in proper working condition. Before each trip, drivers should check the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and fog lights (if equipped) to ensure safe operation. At the same time, attention should also be given to the electrical system, since driving through flooded areas may cause water intrusion into wires, fuses, or the battery, potentially leading to short circuits or fires. Regular inspections help keep the vehicle in a safe and ready-to-use condition.

4. Check Wipers and Windshield

Limited visibility is one of the major challenges when driving in the rain. Worn wiper blades or hardened rubber often leave streaks on the windshield, reducing forward visibility. To ensure clear vision, drivers are advised to check their wipers before the rainy season and replace them if necessary. Using a specialized windshield washer fluid also helps keep the glass clean, minimize fogging, and support efficient wiper operation

5. Check Greasing and Drivetrain Joints

During the rainy season, water and mud can easily accumulate under the vehicle, especially around CV joints and bearings. Without regular cleaning and greasing, these components can quickly rust, create noise, and have a shortened lifespan. Customers are advised to bring their vehicles to an ISUZU dealership, where trained technicians can properly inspect and lubricate the joints to ensure smooth drivetrain operation

6. Check Air Conditioning and Defogger System

This is a system that many customers often overlook when preparing their vehicles for rainy weather. During rain, humidity inside the cabin increases, causing condensation to form on the windshield and windows, which restricts visibility. At such times, the air conditioning system acts as a “dehumidifier,” removing moisture and helping the glass clear up quickly. In addition, the defogger function usually works together with the A/C to dispel fog on the glass. If this system does not operate effectively, drivers may find it very difficult to maintain clear visibility.

Vehicle inspections during the rainy season require technical expertise and adherence to proper standards.
